People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

I had a lovely time, learning how to sketch and paint a complicated tree in watercolour. The tutor had great tips along the way, and I left feeling more confident incorporating more difficult subjects into my landscapes.

Title or Location: watercolour at Omaha Beach
This was a day of the beginning of a new life, with my new wee camper (A converted Vellfire), and my newly adopted dog. It was pouring with rain, so we went for a walk at Omaha Beach where I took some drizzly photos with my phone. Back at the camper van, with a large, hot takeaway cuppacino and treats for my dog, we had a picnic in the van, and I painted this with my watercolours. I partly copied it from the photo without my glasses on, so that I could capture the drizzlyness of the day. I

Title or Location: The photo which is referenced in this watercolor was taken at Aoraki/ Mt Cook National Park by Kavan Chay which made the cut for the 2024 Milky Way Photographer of the Year international competition.
I have always loved watching the milky way, its the brightest out at sea. I have never been able to capture it with a camera. I had this idea in my head about painting a red house on a lonely hill with the milky way above it showing how small we are compared to the universe. Then I came across this shot taken out at Aoraki/ Mt Cook National Park by Kavan Chay and it was like the universe had heard me and given me a reference photo. the watercolor looks nothing like the original photo but I love

My friend asked me to paint something special for her to hang in her newly built home. She chose a photo of the beach she grew up on. It means a lot to her as she is really missing friends and family since she moved away.

I always take photos of subjects to inspire me to paint everytime I do my early morning walk in our place. Then, I had to find time to translate into painting.

The original was taken by my friend just as a storm came in while she stood on the beach at Gorlston Upon Sea. She loved the mood of the last light on the sand before the dark clouds blotted them out. And I was drawn to that too.

I sketched this particular photo on a plane from Charlotte to Houston, the second of two 5x7 paintings of the Wicked Witch of the West. The stewardess kindly monitored my art and was a huge fan of the movie and what I was doing. This painting is one of a 6 piece theme now completed that will hang in my office. The movie is iconic to many and I wanted to capture key scenes from the movie in watercolor but with this particular one, I just sketched what I would have the witch look like if I wer

I decided to try and work carefully and on a small substrate. It is 10 cm wide and 15 cm high.I love the depth of the metal against the cherries. The colour combination really works. I used to very fine brush all the way through.
